Co-operation between commerce and science

The Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources has gained wide-ranging experience in the field of geosciences from the most diverse areas of scientific and technical research, from internationally oriented Technical Co-operation Programs and from advising the government on economic policy issues. This know-how can bolster German participation in, for example, EU or World Bank tenders, can lead to the transfer of knowledge or can be used for many customers from the commercial or administrative sectors to solve problems quickly and in a goal-oriented manner.

European and international co-operation

International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS)

The International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) is engaged in geoscientific questions all over the world. BGR hosts the secretariat for the German National Committee of the IUGS.

EuroGeoSurveys

Within Germany BGR closely cooperates with the geological surveys of the 16 federal states. Twice a year representatives of these organisations meet to discuss geoscientific questions of "trans-federal" relevance.

Marketing of digital data and maps

Within the scope of its global activities, the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources uses specially adapted software or its own services to gather, process, store and interpret the data. These are especially useful when it comes to achieving the goals of complex and interdisciplinary projects. From this fund of information the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources can make a great variety of services available. These range from the interpretation of selected data to the development of specific databanks and applications for answering questions relating to research, administration and business. The products can be bought, leased or licensed, depending on the individual case.

Co-operation with and advising German commerce and industry

The Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources has extraordinarily broad and, at the same time, deep experience in implementing a variety of extremely demanding projects in Technical Co-operation Programmes, which are also supported by, for example, the EuropeAid Programme or other programmes of international donor organisations. Through the implementation of international and cross-faculty interlinked projects, amongst other things, it has at its disposal far-reaching knowledge and links to the most diverse top organisations in the field of international development co-operation. With its management in foreign countries the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources is constantly represented in about 20 developing and newly industrialising countries on all continents. If, in addition to handling its core business, the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources receives additional enquiries, then it can accomplish these tasks flexibly and within an appropriate framework making use of its entire information network. On this basis, the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources is prepared to find sustainable solutions to technically demanding individual problems for its clients, to facilitate the transfer of know-how via co-operation with commerce and industry, to provide experience on specific countries or open up new international markets for the German consultancy industry.

Co-operation in international research projects

The Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources has a broad range of scientific and technical experience based on its participation in diverse research projects of national and international programmes, such as the EU Research Framework Programmes. Through this, as well as the international orientation of the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources, its global, multi-cultural experience and linguistic flexibility, it can provide demanding services in an competent and assured manner. The Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources is willing to take on responsible executive functions, to integrate itself flexibly as a partner in teams, or to act as a sub-contractor, executing special tasks for a partner.
